Star-forming filaments in warm dark matter models
We performed a hydrodynamical cosmological simulation of the formation of a Milky Waylike galaxy in a warm dark matter (WDM) cosmology. Smooth and dense filaments, several comoving mega parsec long, form generically above z ∼ 2 in this model. Atomic line cooling allows gas in the centres of these filaments to cool to the base of the cooling function, resulting in a very striking pattern of exte...
متن کاملHalo Formation in Warm Dark Matter Models
Discrepancies have emerged between the predictions of standard cold dark matter (CDM) theory and observations of clustering on sub-galactic scales. Warm dark matter (WDM) is a simple modification of CDM in which the dark matter particles have initial velocities due either to their having decoupled as thermal relics, or having been formed via non-equilibrium decay. We investigate the nonlinear g...
متن کاملLyman-α constraints on warm and on warm–plus–cold dark matter models
We revisit Lyman-α bounds on the dark matter mass in Λ Warm Dark Matter (ΛWDM) models, and derive new bounds in the case of mixed Cold plus Warm models (ΛCWDM), using a set up which is a good approximation for several theoretically well-motivated dark matter models. We combine WMAP5 results with two different Lyman-α data sets, including observations from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. We pay a ...
متن کاملMassive sterile neutrinos as warm Dark Matter
We show that massive sterile neutrinos mixed with the ordinary ones may be produced in the early universe in the right amount to be natural warm dark matter particles. Their mass should be below 40 keV and the corresponding mixing angles sin22θ > 10−11 for mixing with νμ or ντ , while mixing with νe is slightly stronger bounded with mass less than 30 keV.
متن کاملWarm Dark Matter Model of Galaxy Formation
Cold Dark Matter (CDM) models of galaxy formation had been remarkably successful to explain a number of observations in the past decade. However, with both the theoretical modeling and the observations being improved, CDM models have been very recently shown to have excessive clustering on the sub-galactic scale. Here I discuss a solution, based on our high-resolution numerical simulations, to ...
